Current Projects

Digital Marketing Platform:

SimplyDirect, a digital marketing agency relies solely on their custom cloud based SaaS solution to operate their business day to day. In a common but unfortunate circumstance the rebuild for the project was botched and the business was halted. Flat Spell was able to get SimplyDirect up and running in record speed by using a three prong approach;

  • Examining their cloud configuration and making the ncessary changes to reduce resource saturation
  • Utilizing a common software engineering pattern applied to cloud architecture to reroute request from broken code of unkown depth to working code that accomplishes the same business rules.
  • Instilling a rigorous DevSecOps pipeline and Agile development methodology where project work is tracked and release confidence is high
  • Employ digital transformation techniques to translate ineffecient, manual workflows to automated cloud tasks. In this case an example is to enable heterogenous data source pipelining to a common data model by automating file ingest from various vendors.
DoD IaC

Developing the Infrastructure as Code project for the Department of Defense is in part a Modernization effort to help expedite mission owners in the cloud expedite their ATO by providing a turn key cloud environment deployment. Here's how Flat Spell helped make this project come to exist:

  • We modernized a previous unrelated project to use employ the tenets of DevSecOps and Cloud by enabling the first one-click deployment of a fully compliant cloud environment in Azure which was depoyed via unattended IronBank containers. This enabler, being quite abstract, was able to applied to other projects and so on.
  • A broader scope was recognized and able to be framed as a standalone project on which sole development came to our responsibility to create a artifact that could be distributed and deployed along with evidence bearing artifacts for compliant environments across all DoD IL levels.
Continuous ATO via Real Time Emass integration with Cloud Service Providers

In our travels with DoD IaC it was obvious compliance reporting could be integrated with native CSP service offerings. We designed the API for Emass and created the real time reporting mechanism giving mission owners the first ever opportunity to pass through time series granularity data to Emass. This reduced human intervention, manual and tedious workflows and error prone creation of evidence. Best of all the solution is essentially free due to its lean architecture.

CDC's Cancer Surveillance Cloud-based Computing Platform

We are sole architects of the CDCs new platform for cancer surveillance. Using our deep knowledge of FedRamp compliant architecture and configuration we've built this platform and its SDLC using the latest in DevSecOps practices.
